Sea forwarding – how to optimize loading planning with Goodloading?
Sea freight forwarders face a constant challenge of optimizing container loading. Every day they must effectively plan the transport of general cargo, trying to fit as many goods as possible while maintaining maximum safety. In today’s article, we will look at two scenarios of a sea freight forwarder’s work – with and without the use of the innovative Goodloading application, presenting how significantly this tool can facilitate and improve everyday logistics operations.
Sea forwarding – working using traditional methods. Case study.
In the first case, the forwarder receives an order from the client to transport a group of general cargo. Classic practice requires him to manually calculate the volume of each load to estimate how many cubicles they will occupy in the container. It then needs to find a suitable container, often checking shipments from other customers for possible consolidation. Eventually he finds the perfect container, but due to the difference in weight between these loads and the others on the container, he decides not to combine them. This could result in the center of gravity tolerance being exceeded. After the valuation, the customer ultimately chooses a cheaper offer from another forwarding company, and the forwarder loses the opportunity to acquire a customer and make a profit.

In the second scenario, the freight forwarder uses Goodloading, an application designed to optimize container loading. After receiving the list of loads from the customer, he or she only needs one click to add them to the application. Goodloading immediately offers recommended containers that will accommodate a given freight. The forwarder can therefore reserve the appropriate container and provide the customer with the final transport rate within a few minutes.
Thanks to the ability to view loading data, the forwarder can see that there is a lot of free space left in the container. Therefore, it is considering consolidating shipments from other senders. Using saved designs in the app, it quickly finds another container to travel the same route and enough space for additional loads. However, it turns out that the loads on the found container are much heavier than those for which he is looking for space. Therefore, it sets the center of gravity in the application so that the application distributes the loads with the indicated tolerance in length and width. This information gives him assurance that consolidating these shipments will be safe.
The entire process takes only a few minutes, and the forwarder can already determine the expected rate. The ability to consolidate loads from different senders allows him to offer a more attractive price. When the customer accepts the offer, the forwarder sends a link to view the container design to the person responsible for loading, along with an animation of the load order. This avoids delays and gravity balance issues, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

For a freight forwarder, it is crucial to make the best use of every available centimeter of loading space. This is exactly what Goodloading.com impressively enables.
Goodloading.com is an invaluable tool that helps us effectively plan and optimize the loading space. With its intuitive user interface and detailed visualizations, we can test various load arrangements and find the best solution for our specific needs. This not only saves time and money but also helps reduce unnecessary CO2 emissions.
We particularly appreciate the option to simulate different means of transport. The visualization of the truck’s loading space or checking how a specific load fits into a container is extremely helpful.
Goodloading.com is an indispensable tool for us, and we highly recommend it to anyone working in freight forwarding and logistics. It is an excellent example of how digitization and technology can increase efficiency in the freight forwarding industry.
